Summer is the perfect time to get outside and have some fun with your family and friends. The Brighton Michigan area has plenty to do! Do you need some ideas for what to enjoy this July and August? Here’s our team’s can’t-miss checklist:

Celebrate Independence Day. The Fourth of July is quickly approaching and everything from pancakes to various “duck” activities and a great parade are on the schedule in Downtown Brighton.

If you’re looking to get some early morning exercise, participate in the Hungry Duck Race half marathon or 5K. Also starting bright and early on July 4th head to the Lions Club for some delicious all-you-can-eat pancakes. Then, the 2018 Brighton Independence Day parade starts at 10 am and has more than 75 entries this year! Immediately following the parade is a Brighton Fourth of July Tradition, the Livingston Sunrise Rotary Club’s annual Duck Race.

Explore the farmers market. Add some delicious fresh produce and homemade baked goods to your summer menu. Every Saturday from 8 is-1 pm you can enjoy the harvest of our local farmers in beautiful Downtown Brighton.

The Brighton Market is perfect for all ages. Enjoy some quality fun time with your family or visit with friends to check out what all the vendors have to offer. Then, enjoy the fresh air by taking a stroll around Mill Pond.

Go on a hike or a bike ride. Enjoy the fresh air and summer sun by taking a hike or going on a bike ride in your local area. You don’t have to travel far to enjoy the best of Michigan’s great outdoors; go mountain biking on Mt. Brighton, take a walk through the Brighton Recreation Area or explore Kensington Metropark’s abundance of wildlife.

You can also make your bike ride a whole day’s adventure by packing a picnic!

Life is better at the lake. There are lots of wonderful lakes in the Brighton area and everyone loves a day at the lake! Use the calm of the early morning to go fishing or kayaking. Go swimming, take a boat ride, take a camping trip, and much more!

Some of our favorite local areas to check out include Island Lake State Recreation Area and Jump Island at Bishop lake; an inflatable water park that is perfect for the kids.

Listen to live music. Take a stroll through Downtown Howell for Rock the Block, on July 11 or August 1 to enjoy live bands, great food, and delicious local brews in. Also in Howell, enjoy listening to a variety of local area musicians every Friday night through Concerts at the Courthouse beginning July 6.

You can also grab your friends and family to enjoy the Michigan Philharmonic at Kensington Metropark on July 14. Bring blankets and chairs and make summer memories to the sound of talented musicians sharing their craft.

Then, in August head back to town for the Brighton Fine Arts and Acoustic Music Festival. Here you can listen to an eclectic mix of live acoustic music and take a walk down Main Street to be inspired by beautiful unique art pieces.

Enjoy the local festivals and events. We’ve already mentioned the Brighton Fine Arts and Acoustic Music Festival but our local downtown has even more festivals to offer this summer! Coming up quickly in mid-July is our outdoor shopping, strolling music, street food and drink festival, A Taste of Brighton. This event highlights all that the Brighton Area has to offer and is perfect for a night out with your friends.

If you’re looking for an event that’s perfect for your kids and/or grandkids take a trip to the Fowlerville Family Fair at the end of July. Check out the tractor pull, ride some rides, see the animals, enjoy an elephant ear, and much more!

Then, in mid-August, take a trip to Howell for the 58th Annual Howell Melon Festival. This festival is perfect for the whole family and showcases delicious melons. Go to enjoy live entertainment, eat wonderful food and so much more.

There is so much to do in the Brighton Michigan area in the summertime. What are some of your favorite summer pastimes?
